Was convenient to Union Square and cable car. We had a room on the street but did not hear the street noise. The breakfast was filling and nice presentation. Rooms were clean and bed was comfy. I would come back to this place if I returned to SF. Safe neighborhood and no homeless people hanging around. Have to put your car in a parking garage.

i stayed at the hotel for two nights, and chose the site because of the review on Trip Advisor. The site said it was full, but I called the hotel directly, and was given the one and only room left. The hotel is very charming, and the staff very accommodating, A full / free breakfast is served in the restaurant and was excellent. I appreciated the fresh pink rose on my dining table. Joanna, my server was a sunny and energetic gal and as I was travelling sola (senior lady) I enjoyed her conversation. The hotel is only 3 blocks from Union Square, just turn the corner onto Powell, one steep block and two easy blocks. The shopping was wonderful, I did Macy's and the DWS Fashion Shoe discount store. A good burger spot on Powell, well priced and huge, it was right across from the Park. The owner, is a handsome French senior gentleman and even helped me with my luggage upon departure. I had a back inner facing room and it was quiet, I was comfortable and felt entirely safe

Me and my fianc spent 9 days at the hotel and had an amazing time. Staff is very good and professional, the hotel restaurant offers excellent food. The details engraved in every bit of the hotel walls and decoration were one of my favourite parts. I completely recommend.

We stayed in the Cornell Hotel de France for 5 days and loved it. Each floor is devoted to an individual artist, we were on the Chagall floor, with posters and prints of Chagall on the walls of the hallway. The room was large with two beds, on the 4th floor, with windows looking out onto the street. There is a wonderful cage elevator, that I'm sure will frighten a few people, but it reminded us of Paris in the 50's. It was $113 a night, but with the usual tax it came to $157, which, for San Francisco is not bad. That also included a breakfast of two choices, French toast or eggs with bacon and fried potatoes.

The hotel is located very central and the Cable Car passes by practically just outside the door. The staff is really friendly and helpful. We needed some advise on places to visit and got some really good advise and proposals in a very friendly and helpful way. The room was clean, quiet and the bed left nothing to ask for, so we slept really well, however jetlagged we were. Breakfast served is good, served in a fantastic room, ancient French style. If we are going to SF again the choice will be easy: this is the place to stay!

I continue to love this hotel after being a guest for 20+ years. Although there have been changes in the office staff, the hotel and restaurant personnel remain the same and the owner is ever present with a family dog adding a safe non corporate feel to the property. The location is phenomenal, rooms are immaculate (hard to accomplish in older buildings) and the overall wish is to make your stay not only with them, but in San Francisco as well, a success. Breakfast is an amazing value and delicious. Did miss being not being able to dine there in the evening but the chef definitely deserves his vacations.

Wanted to stay near Union Square in a boutique hotel and this was a gem. The value exceeded my expectations - the location, service, character/ design of the hotel and hearty breakfast each day was worth a lot and the sweet golden retriever who hung out at check in was one of the best parts. Hotel was quiet too which is super important to me when jet lagged.

We stayed three nights. The property is older, but very clean and maintained. The room's amenities were adequate . . would have preferred a more modern bathroom, but it was adequate and interesting. Service by the staff was excellent. Breakfast in the restaurant downstairs was very good and the restaurant itself is beautiful.

My partner and I stayed here in mid-September for two nights. Our room was located at the back of the hotel and was very clean, roomy and quiet. It was well appointed with toiletries, etc. The staff were very good and very accommodating particulary when we arrived and requested a second night (which we hadn't previously booked). I did struggle a little with understanding the breakfast staff but I put that down to being an Aussie. Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely stay again.

This is the only hotel that we prebooked and took advantage of one of the package deals (we spent our final three nights here prior to returning home to Alaskla. We had stayed here a few years ago when still livijg in Calfiornia so knew what to expect. The "bellhop" was the owner, Mr Lambert, who brought us up to Room #300 which was right on Bush. The windows were double paned and shut out all street noise. Of couse, it also shut out the noise of the cables running in the street on Powell in addition to the passing cable cars. The morning breakfast was excellent and is brought to the table - no buffet stuff. The restaurant is also very good. As our flight to Anchorage didn't leave until early evening they provided a storage area for luggage. The only thing my wife didn't care about was the naked men threatre next door. However, never noticed anything going on.

Had excellent stay at Hotel Cornell de France in San Francisco. The location is perfect with two cable car lines right at the corner of Powell & Bush, just six blocks up from the Powell BART subway station (great airport connection), and also only 5 blocks from rental cars on O'Farrell. We flew into the airport, grabbed the BART / walked to the Hotel and stayed a few days to tour San Francisco. A one-day NAPA Valley wine tour even picked us up directly at the hotel. Then rented a car to tour Yosemite, stayed again at the hotel with car parked in garage just across the street ($22.50 a day thru hotel, with in/out privileges), and dropped the rental off at the airport before the flight home. The hotel is clean, and service very friendly. Breakfast included was nice, but our stay also included a free four-course dinner in the restaurant that was fantastic (regularly $42 per person, so a value of $84 for the two of us) . . . note: get the souffl for dessert! The only draw-back for some ma

I have stayed in San Francisco many times on business, but never had the pleasure of staying at the Cornell Hotel de France. It is a wonderful Botique Hotel with Restaurant. Claude Lambert and family run this Hotel as if it were a castle. The art work and decor are charming and the people are even better. I plan to stay with them whenever I get to San Francisco. Make your reservations in advance because they have a great following. We met several people in the restaurant who only stay at the Cornell when they are in town. Moreover, it had a great location accessible to the Warf or North Beach. They also have a Parking agreement with a big parking lot. Easy access to go in an out no charge Five Stars inmy book .

We enjoyed our 3 night stay here, but we did have a large queen room (and I didn't see the small rooms). Our bed was comfortable , the room clean, and the cleaning staff friendly. We liked the quirkiness and charm of the place, which includes an old-fashioned, yet speedy, elevator. Reception service was good - not overly friendly, but efficient, and when we checked in we were given a map and helpful information about the city. A plus for us was the hotel has a great deal on parking right across the street for $20 per night. You can access your car whenever you want, but we just parked it and enjoyed San Francisco's public transit with a 3 day pass (which we bought at Union Square, a short walk away). The cable car stop is right on Powell St. and the #30 bus on Stockton, a block away. Starbucks and Walgreen's are a block away and downtown shopping is a few blocks down.

The two evening package was a great value. It included dinner one night and breakfast both days. It also inlcuded parking right accross the street. Restaurant Jeanne d'Arc was amazing. I would stay there again on my next trip and definitely recommend it to others.

My husband and I had not been to San Francisco for many years and were looking for a B & B with a full breakfast, great location, clean, friendly and a little romantic. After all, he did propose to me in this great city. We found it all at the Cornell. They even gave us a detailed map of the local transit, which AAA did not give us. We will stay there again when visiting and definitely recommend it.

Booked this through my partners recommendation, really nice hotel. Friendly staff. Room is clean. The baths are a bonus for the USA - deep roll top tubs. The location is good although the adult theatre next door could be off putting for some. Parking is in the garage across the street at a reduced cost from the normal garage prices. If hiring a car through Alamo the office is right across the street. It is 5 minutes walk to Union Square- downhill although the walk up can be a struggle. The restaurant in the basement serves really good quality french food at a good price and is worth a visit.

My wife and I have been staying at the Cornell Hotel at Bush & Powell Sts. for more than 18 years. During every visit we are instantly enchanted by the staff, the free breakfast in the Cornell's basement Joan of Arc dining room; the cleanliness of the rooms; the nightly French cuisine available; and first and foremost, the Lambert family, their pet dogs and their hospitality. With so many choices in the City, we always turn to the Cornell. We have no desire to go anywhere else, despite stays at Villa Florence, St. Francis, The Chancellor and several others that will remain nameless. Convenient and charming. That's the Cornell.
