General Info

Greenfield Citrus Nursery in Mesa, is hosting the East Valley Citrus Clinic on January 27, 2010, Saturday from 8: 30am-12: 00pm. This clinic is held annually, and we are happy to host this event once again. The clinic is a great opportunity to learn how to care for your own citrus trees, how to plant citrus, irrigation techniques, fertilizing, pest management, disease identification and management, pruning of citrus and deciduous fruit trees, and tips on choosing low chill deciduous fruit varieties. There is also a display and overview of approx. 100 citrus varieties on the taste-testing table. This program is sponsored by the Maricopa County Cooperative Extension Office and the Master Gardener Program of Maricopa County. The event is held outside here at the nursery, in our citrus tree production fields. The speaker stations are arranged in separate areas along our main road dividing the north and south growing sections, so you can enjoy some wider open spaces, away from the city congestion. Since the clinic starts fairly early inthe morning, you may want to dress warmer for the cooler temperatures. We will have parking attendants out front to direct you, and if it's cool enough, even a couple of fireplace warmers to enjoy. The speakers for the clinic are from the University of Arizona Agriculture Faculty, and noted local professionals. As the presentations last approx. 20 minutes, followed by a question and answer period at the end of each session, you are welcome to bring a folding chair for yourself to use. We also have Thomas W. Crawford, Jr. Ph.D., Agronomist, from IAS Laboratories, Phoenix, here to answer soil, water, and plant analysis questions, Carol Johston, PhD., RD, directors of the ASU Nutrition Program, presenting the Vitamin C properties of citrus, and our bee propagator, Mike Foster, owner of "BeesBegone", will help educate the need for "bees" with pollination in our food production. Many attendees return each year, as they tell us to learn something new each time.
